BoyleSports Betting Rules

Rules for Customers Placing Bets on BoyleSports.com and via Fon-A-Bet

These rules outline the terms governing all betting transactions between BoyleSports (“BoyleSports”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) and you, the customer when using:

  • BoyleSports.com (referred to as “Online” for Desktop or “Mobile”)
  • Our Fon-A-Bet Service (by telephoning 1800 44 00 00 from Ireland or 0800 44 00 00 from the UK).

(Please be aware: Distinct rules apply to bets placed physically within our betting shops located in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the UK).

By opening an account with BoyleSports.com (Online or Mobile) or using Fon-A-Bet, you confirm your acceptance of the overarching Customer Agreement and these specific Betting Rules applicable at the time of betting.

Acceptance of your bets is strictly subject to the following rules.

1. Ante Post Bets

  • Definition: Ante-Post bets are placed on future events, often well before the final participants are confirmed.
  • Cessation: Ante Post betting typically closes at the Final Declaration stage for an event. Bets placed after this point are generally considered ‘Non-runner = No Bet’.
  • Rule 4: Once Ante Post betting ceases, Tattersall Rule 4 deductions may apply to subsequent bets if there are non-runners (see Rule 4 Deductions section).
  • Losing Stakes: Generally, stakes on Ante Post selections that become non-runners are lost.
  • Void Ante Post Bets: However, your Ante Post bet will be made void and the stake returned if:
    • We explicitly offered a ‘Non-Runner Money Back’ concession (clearly advertised when you placed the bet).
    • Your selection is ‘Balloted Out’ (eliminated due to entry limits).
    • The race or event is abandoned or officially declared void.
    • The venue for the event changes significantly.
    • For horse/greyhound racing, the fundamental conditions of the race change before they come under the starter’s orders.
    • For horse racing, the horse was already officially withdrawn before we accepted your bet.
    • Specific terms like “with a run” were offered, and the selection was subsequently withdrawn.
  • Each-Way Ante Post: Settled based on the place terms advertised at the time you placed the bet.
  • Postponement: If an event is postponed and declarations are subsequently re-opened, all Ante Post bets placed before the postponement become void, regardless of the eventual outcome.

2. Related Contingencies

  • You cannot combine selections in multiples (doubles, trebles, accumulators, etc.) where the outcome of one event directly influences or depends on the outcome of another within the same bet.
  • We reserve the right to void or adjust the settlement of any such bets accepted inadvertently.

3. Void Bets

  • Single Bets: If a selection in a single bet is declared void, your stake will be returned.
  • Multiple Bets: If a selection within a multiple/accumulator bet is declared void, it is treated as a non-runner. The bet stands, running onto the remaining selections (e.g., a treble becomes a double, a double becomes a single).

4. Maximum Payouts

  • Purpose: These limits define the maximum amount that can be won on any single day per customer, regardless of stake size or odds. They help us manage risk and offer competitive odds.
  • Scope: Limits apply to the total winnings (return minus stake) on any bet, including Ante Post bets and bets that have been Cashed Out.
  • Application: Limits apply per individual event and per customer or group of customers acting together.
  • Currency:
    • Bets placed in Euro (€) are subject to the maximum payouts listed in Euro (€).
    • Bets placed in Sterling (£) are subject to the maximum payouts listed in Sterling (£).
    • For bets in other currencies, the Euro (€) exchange rate on the day of the settlement will be used to determine the equivalent maximum payout.
  • Multiple Bets: If a multiple bet includes events with different maximum payout limits, the lowest applicable limit will apply to the entire bet.
  • Syndicates/Groups: All maximum payout limits apply to any one customer or group/syndicate of customers acting in concert, backing the same selections (even across multiple accounts, channels, or over several days). If we suspect bets are placed in this manner to circumvent limits, the total payout across all related bets will be capped at one single maximum payout.
  • Liability: BoyleSports is not liable for any perceived loss of potential winnings exceeding these limits (including loss of profits, anticipated savings, etc.).
  • Customer Responsibility: It is your responsibility to ensure your bets and potential winnings stay within these outlined limits.
  • Discretion: We reserve the right to apply these limits at our discretion.

5. Special Offers and Concessions Payout Cap

  • A maximum amount of €50,000 per customer per day is payable in relation to winnings derived specifically from any BoyleSports offer or concession. This includes, but is not limited to, Best Odds Guaranteed (BOG) and Early Payout offers.
  • This cap applies across BoyleSports.com, BoyleSports Mobile, and any associated partner sites.
  • Early Payout Example: If an Early Payout offer results in a payout on a selection that ultimately did not win according to standard rules, the maximum payout attributable to that offer for that customer on that day is capped at €50,000.

6. Horse Racing Rules

  • Abandoned/Postponed Races or Meetings: Bets are void if the race is abandoned, declared void, race conditions/entries change significantly, or if overnight declarations don’t stand.
  • Each-Way Terms:
    • Non-Handicap Races:
      • 2-4 Runners: Win Only
      • 5-7 Runners: 1/4 odds, places 1st, 2nd
      • 8+ Runners: 1/5 odds, places 1st, 2nd, 3rd
    • Handicap Races:
      • 2-4 Runners: Win Only
      • 5-7 Runners: 1/4 odds, places 1st, 2nd
      • 8-11 Runners: 1/5 odds, places 1st, 2nd, 3rd
      • 12-15 Runners: 1/4 odds, places 1st, 2nd, 3rd
      • 16+ Runners: 1/4 odds, places 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th
    • Extra Place Races: Terms for races advertised with extra places will be clearly displayed and override standard terms.
    • Overseas Pari-Mutuel: Each-way terms are determined by local tote rules.
  • Amendments after Official Result: Settlement is based on the official result declared at the ‘weigh-in’. Subsequent amendments (e.g., successful appeals) do not affect the settlement.
  • Dead Heats: Stakes are divided by the number of participants in the Dead Heat. For a two-way dead heat, bets are settled at half-stake, full odds. Multiple dead heats are divided proportionally.
  • Forecast/Tricast Betting:
    • Forecasts: Accepted in races with 3+ runners. Settled as a Straight Forecast (1st, 2nd correct order) based on the official Computer Straight Forecast (CSF) dividend. Reverse Forecasts allow 1st/2nd in either order. Void if <3 Runners. Void if it includes a non-runner. If only one finisher, Forecasts with that horse first are settled as Win SP singles; others lose.
    • Tricasts: Accepted where an official Computer Tricast dividend is declared. Settled on 1st, 2nd, 3rd in correct order. Combination Tricasts allow 1st/2nd/3rd in any order. If there is no dividend, settle as CSF on the first two picks; if one non-runner settles as CSF on the remaining two, if there are two non-runners, void. If only one finisher, Tricasts with that horse first, are settled as Win SP singles, others lose.
  • Non-Runners (Bets Placed After Final Declaration Stage):
    • Single Bet: Void, stake returned (unless placed Ante Post – see Rule 1).
    • Multiple Bets: Bet stands on remaining selections (e.g., treble becomes double).
    • Forecast: Void, stake returned.
    • Tricast: If one non-runner settles as a Forecast on the remaining two. If two non-runners, void.
  • First Past The Post (FPP):
    • This applies to Winning outright single and multiple bets on UK, Irish, and South African horse racing ONLY.
    • Settlement: We pay out on both the horse that finishes first past the post AND the official result declared at the weigh-in. Payouts are subject to Maximum Payout limits.
    • Exceptions (Settled on Official Result ONLY): Ante-Post bets, Tote/Pari-Mutuel bets, void races, bets on two-runner races, ‘Win Inrunning’ markets, horses taking wrong course, carrying wrong weight, jockey failing to weigh-in, or winner declared in error by judge.
  • After Off Bet Acceptance:
    • Available on selected UK & Irish races for the Outright (Race Winner) market only.
    • Allows betting for a short period (determined by us) after the race starts.
    • Bets accepted during this window are settled per standard rules.
  • No Official Starting Price (SP) Returned: Bets at SP settled at the last available BoyleSports price. If no BoyleSports price and no SP, bets are void.
  • Reserves:
    • If we price a reserve that runs, it counts for settlement. If a priced reserve is later withdrawn, no Rule 4 applies to that withdrawal.
    • If we don’t price a reserve that runs, bets placed before it entered the race are treated as if the reserve wasn’t running (and Best Odds Guaranteed won’t apply to those earlier bets).
  • Walkovers / Void Races: All bets on races declared a walkover or void are void.
  • Trotting: Settled on the official declared result only (no subsequent changes). Accepted at stated prices only. Place terms: 8+ runners = three places; 4-7 runners = two places; <4 runners = Place betting void (if field reduces after bet placement).
  • Rule 4 Deductions:
    • Applies when: A horse is withdrawn before coming under the starter’s orders (and wasn’t an Ante Post bet).
    • Purpose: To adjust payouts on remaining runners due to the reduced field and changed odds landscape.
    • Calculation: Deductions (in cents per €1 or pence per £1 won) applied to winnings based on the price of the withdrawn horse at the time of withdrawal. Applies to Early Prices based on the last BoyleSports price.
    • Scale:
      • 1/9 or shorter: 90c/p
      • 2/11 to 2/17: 85c/p
      • 1/4 to 1/5: 80c/p
      • 3/10 to 2/7: 75c/p
      • 2/5 to 1/3: 70c/p
      • 8/15 to 4/9: 65c/p
      • 8/13 to 4/7: 60c/p
      • 4/5 to 4/6: 55c/p
      • 20/21 to 5/6: 50c/p
      • Evens (1/1) to 6/5: 45c/p
      • 5/4 to 6/4: 40c/p
      • 8/5 to 7/4: 35c/p
      • 9/5 to 9/4: 30c/p
      • 5/2 to 3/1: 25c/p
      • 10/3 to 4/1: 20c/p
      • 9/2 to 11/2: 15c/p
      • 6/1 to 9/1: 10c/p
      • 10/1 to 14/1: 5c/p
      • 16/1 or greater: No deduction
    • Multiple Withdrawals: Total deduction capped at 90c/p per €/£1.
  • Overseas Horse Racing (Outside Ireland, UK, South Africa): Settled on an Official Result basis ONLY for all markets. SP bets are settled at SP from SIS/PA or official track dividend if no SP/Dividend Price Type is selected. US dividends are usually $2 per unit. Australian dividends are usually Super-Tab. Coupled selection rules apply as specified.
  • Horse Racing Special Markets: (Settled FPP unless stated otherwise)
    • Aggregate Winning Distances: Max distance 12L (Flat), 30L (NH). Distances: DH=0, Nose=0.05, SH=0.1, Hd=0.2, Nk=0.3, 1/2L=0.5, 3/4L=0.75, 1L=1 etc. Void if <4 races run unless max quote hit. Default distances (2L Flat, 6L NH) for abandoned races if 4+ run. Walkover = 2L/6L. Settled FPP only.
    • Combined Aggregate Winning Distance: Default distances apply for abandoned races. Void if <4 races combined run. Settled FPP only.
    • Daily Doubles / Trebles / Hotpots: Non-runner reverts to SP single/double, etc., for the remainder. Rule 4 may apply to other non-runners. Settled Official Result & FPP. BOG does not apply.
    • Win/Place Multiples / Place Only Multiples / Easy As 1-2-3: Rule 4 may apply if non-runners. Settled FPP only.

    • Not To Win: Bet void if selection doesn’t start. Dead Heat rules apply. Settled FPP only.

    • Name Winning Distance / Distance Band / Winning Distance: Void on walkover or no finishers. ‘Over’ band wins if only one finisher. Settled FPP only.
    • Place Accumulators: SP fav must place (standard terms) in each race. Extra Place terms don’t apply. The cheapest price is used if there is a late withdrawal. Settled on completed races if meeting abandoned. Dead Heat rules apply. Settled Official Result & FPP.
    • Cashback (2nd, 3rd, etc.): Stake refunded if selection places but doesn’t win. Void if field <=4 runners. Rule 4 applies based on outright price. Dead Heat rules apply. Settled Official Result & FPP.
    • Match Bets: Void if one doesn’t run. If one fails to complete, the other wins. Void if both fail to complete. Settled FPP only.
    • Lengthen the Odds: Selection must win by stated distance or more. Settled on official distance (DH=0). FPP concession does not apply. Rule 4 applies based on outright price.

    • Place Betting: Settled on advertised places. Void if runners <= places offered. Non-runner stakes refunded. Rule 4 applies to remaining runners based on the withdrawn horse’s Place price (see separate Place Only Rule 4 table). Max deduction 90c/p. Dead Heat rules apply. Settled Official Result & FPP. (Note: Separate Place Only Rule 4 table required for full detail).

    • Overseas Settlement Note: All bets on Overseas Racing (outside IRE, UK, SA) are settled on Official Result ONLY, including specials.

7. Tote

  • Online Totepool bets (via BoyleSports Tote section) are subject to Totepool rules (link provided on site). BoyleSports isn’t responsible for Tote rule changes.
  • Placepot/Quadpot via Fon-A-Bet follows Tote rules but has a BoyleSports maximum payout of €/£25,000.

8. Greyhound Racing Rules

  • Ante Post: Standard rules apply. Re-introduced reserves count; bets stand.
  • Re-Scheduled Races: Bets stand if run later same day (void bets at board/early price revert to SP). Void if not re-run same day.
  • Reserves: Bets void on non-runners UNLESS Trap Number + SP price type selected (bet stands on reserve in that trap). Early price bets on specific dogs are void if they are non-runners, regardless of reserve. Priced/unpriced reserves count for results.
  • Non-Runners/Withdrawals: Bets at Early/Board price settled at SP if dog withdrawn.
  • Greyhound Specials:
    1. Odds v Evens (Trap 1,3,5 vs 2,4,6): Void if any withdrawal unless declared before the opening show. Dead Heat rules apply.
    2. Inside v Outside (Trap 1,2,3 vs. 4,5,6): Void if any withdrawal is allowed unless declared before the opening show. Dead Heat rules apply.
    3. Top v Middle v Bottom (Trap 1,2 vs. 3,4 vs. 5,6): Void if any withdrawal unless declared before the opening show. Dead Heat rules apply.
    4. Name Winning Distance: Settled on official distance. Bets stand if non-runners.
    5. Horses And Hounds: The non-runner reverts to SP, which is single on the remainder. Rule 4 may apply if other non-runners (<=10/1). Settled Official Result & FPP.
    6. Greyhound Across the Card Doubles: Non-runner reverts to SP single/double. Settled Official Result & FPP. No BOG.
    7. Top 2 Finish: Settled on 1st and 2nd place finishers. Rule 4 may apply if the non-runner is declared before the bet is placed.
    8. To Finish Last: Settled on the official result. If dog(s) DNF, settle on the last dog to complete. Dead Heat rules apply.
    9. Trap Challenge: Unaffected by reserves/vacant traps/void races (unless no races run). Void if the meeting doesn’t start. Dead Heat = 1 win per trap. Dead Heat rules apply if traps tie for most wins. Combined challenges are void if only one meeting remains; settled on completed races otherwise. Settled on races within displayed times only.

9. Coursing Rules

  • Outright Betting: Withdrawn dog = loser, UNLESS withdrawn from first round before coming under slipper’s control. Rule 4 applies in that case (50c/p odds-on, 25c/p EVS-3/1, 15c/p 10/3-15/2, No Rule 4 8/1+). The deduction is based on the shortest price of multiple withdrawals. Bets stand once dog under slipper’s control. Void if venue changes. Dead Heat settlement if final not run.
  • Ante Post Betting: All bets on non-runners are losers, regardless of slipper control.

10. General Sports Rules (Apply unless overridden by specific sports rules)

  1. Abandoned Matches: Bets on outcome are void unless the official result is declared or the match is completed on the same day. Bets on unconditionally determined markets (e.g., First Goalscorer if goal scored) stand. ‘Full Time’ is defined by sport’s rules.
  2. Knock-Out Competitions: The tournament winner settled on a trophy winner. Match bets are settled on the qualifier for the next round (if the match started, not drawn/replayed). Outright settled on trophy winner unless otherwise stated.
  3. Non-Runners: Usually ‘All in compete or not’ (bet loses if selection withdraws). If advertised as ‘Non-runner no bet’, stakes are refunded if withdrawn before the start. Rule 4 may apply to winnings if a competitor withdraws.
  4. Outright/Tournament & Handicap Betting: Settled on Outright result unless Handicap price is specifically chosen.
  5. Player/Team Withdrawn After Start: If a competitor takes any part and then withdraws, bets are settled as losers.
  6. Related Bets: Generally, multiplied odds don’t apply for the same selection in multiple events (singles only). Special prices may be offered for specific multiples. Rules for settlement if one leg is non-runner depend on Ante Post vs. Day of Event timing (see original text for detailed scenarios).
  7. Results: Primarily settled on the Press Association (PA) result immediately after the event. The official governing body result is used if PA is unavailable. Subsequent corrections generally don’t affect settlement.
  8. Season Handicap Betting: Settled by adding/subtracting the start value from the final points total. Dead Heat rules apply.
  9. Venue Changes: Bets stand unless the venue changed to the opponent’s ground (or a different country for internationals).

11. Football Rules

  • General: Markets based on 90 mins + injury time unless stated otherwise (Extra Time/Penalties usually don’t count). Void if non-standard match length (except specified Youth/Women’s games 70/80 mins). Void if the team starts <11 players. Abandoned matches are void unless completed on the same day (unresolved markets). Postponed matches are void unless played on the same day. Venue change voids bet only if switched to the away team’s ground. Neutral venue: team listed first = ‘home’.
  • Divisional Betting: Settled on final league position (play-offs irrelevant for league position). The League winner settled on the trophy winner. Bets stand on teams not completing fixtures. The official result is used if the league is incomplete. Season Handicap/Match Bets are settled per the rules.
  • Bookings: Only cards shown to active players during 90 mins + injury time count. Canceled cards, staff cards, and post-whistle cards don’t count.
  • Bookings Points: Yellow = 10 pts, Red = 25 pts. Max 35 pts per player (second yellow leading to red counts as 1 Yellow + 1 Red = 35).
  • Corners: Settled on corners taken, not awarded.
  • Timing: Settled based on time kick/corner taken, not awarded.
  • Goalscorers: Efforts were made to price all players; unquoted players counted if they scored. Own goals DON’T count for goalscorer markets. Suppose the only goal is OG, ‘No Goalscorer’ wins. Void bets are taken between goal and official correction if the scorer amends in play.
    • First Goalscorer: Stakes refunded if the player takes no part or comes on after 1st goal scored.
    • Last Goalscorer: All players participating count, even if off the pitch when the last goal is scored.
    • Score Anytime / 2+ / Hat-trick: All players participating count.
  • Goalscorer Match Bets: Both players must start for bets to stand.
  • Score and Win: The player must score, AND their team must win in 90 mins. Void if the player takes no part.
  • Scorecasts (First Goalscorer + Correct Score): Must predict both correctly. 0-0/No Goalscorer = Correct Score single. Reverts to Correct Score single if a player no part/comes on after 1st goal. If 1st goal is OG, settle on the next scorer + correct score. If the only goal is OG and the score is 1-0, it settled as Correct Score single. If abandoned after the goal, settled as First Goalscorer single. If abandoned before the goal, void.
  • Highest Scoring Game/Team: Dead Heat rules apply if tie. Only named games count. Void if the match is postponed/abandoned.
  • Top League/Tournament Goalscorer: Based on regular season games only (play-offs excluded). Bets stand if a player is named in the squad. Dead Heat rules apply. Extra-time goals count, but Penalty Shootout goals do not.
  • Results: Settled per PA, then official body immediately after the match. No subsequent amendments.
  • Bet Builder: Available on selected matches. For combinations not placeable as standard multiples due to relation. Singles placed via Bet Builder are treated as standard bets. No Cash Out. Individual market rules apply. The entire Bet Builder is void if ANY leg is void/pushed (e.g., selected Goalscorer doesn’t play). Standard disclaimers apply (availability, error correction, right to accept/decline/amend/remove).
  • Next Permanent Manager: Caretakers/Interims don’t count unless they complete 10 competitive matches. Director of Football doesn’t count. Person selecting first team counts if structure changes without specific manager title.
  • Stats Betting (Settled via OPTA):
    • 90 mins + injury time only.
    • Match/Team markets = total from all participating players.
    • Player markets = Player MUST START for bets to stand (void otherwise).
    • First Stat Markets: Other players are available on request.
    • Pass markets settled per criteria (see definitions).
    • Tackle markets = tackles WON.
    • Player Match Bets are void if either player doesn’t start.
    • Player Most markets void if your player takes no part.
  • Football Stats Definitions (Based on OPTA):
    • Goal/Own Goal: The official decision will be reflected where possible. The goal is if the original shot is on target; the OG is if the off-target shot is deflected in.
    • Shot on Target: Goal; Clear attempt saved by GK; Clear attempt stopped by the last defender. (Hitting frame is NOT SoT unless the goal is scored).
    • Shot off Target: Clear attempt over/wide; Would have gone over/wide but saved/blocked; Hits frame, no goal. (Blocked shots are not Shots off Target).
    • Blocked Shot: Clear attempt on target blocked by outfield player (not last man). Includes blocks, my own teammate. (Last line blocks = SoT).
    • Goal Assist: Final touch leading to the goal. Deflected touch counts only if the receiver is likely to get the ball anyway. No assist for OG, direct FK/corner goals, or penalties.
    • Direct Free Kick (Goals/Shots): Attempt directly from the FK itself.
    • Body Part: Right Foot, Left Foot, Head, Other. (Foot includes leg).
    • Location: Position of the ball when shot taken. On line = inside area.
    • Pass: Intentional ball player-to-player (inc. GK, corner, FK pass). Excludes crosses, keeper throws, and throw-ins.
    • Tackle: Player connects with ball in ground challenge, successfully taking it from player in possession. (Not cutting out a pass).
  • Video Assistant Referee (VAR): Bets will be settled based on the final decision made by the referee after the conclusion of any VAR review, according to the specific market rules and the official match result. VAR interventions themselves are not typically a betting market unless specifically offered.
